Baltimore Spelling Bee
Dear Guest:
Operated and maintained by the College of Fine Arts and Communication, Stephens Theatre, located in Stephens Hall at Towson University, is a 688 seat proscenium performance venue. Originally constructed in 1911 and renovated in 1990, the theatre offers contemporary production facilities in a historic environment, retaining much of its original character and architectural detail. The lobby and main doors to the auditorium are located on the second floor of Stephens Hall, sharing common space with academic offices and classrooms.
Because of our proximity to teaching and working spaces in historic Stephens Hall, we ask our visitors in advance, to be especially mindful and respectful of their environment when attending an event. The theatre management must rely on teachers, parents, and chaperones to maintain order and ensure students are on their best behavior, not only during the event, but also when entering and exiting the auditorium.
Normally prohibited, students will be allowed to eat lunch in the theatre during the scheduled lunch-break at the Baltimore Spelling Bee. Trash boxes will be provided and we ask that teachers, parents, and chaperones take an active role in helping the theatre’s management minimize the impact of trash and food debris during the lunch-break. We hope you will point out to your students that having this special privilege extended to them requires their personal responsibility in exercising care while eating and drinking in the theatre as well as properly disposing of all of their lunch waste.
We thank you in advance for your assistance in these matters and look forward to sharing the Baltimore Bee experience with you and your students.
Sincerely,
Paul Shapanus, Technical Director
Susan Brown, Senior Event Manager
